Since I haven’t seen any posts about it on Tumblr, I figured I’d make the post myself! #heardwhilstdisabled is a trending hashtag on twitter, has been on-and-off for awhile obviously, and it’s about the common, casual microagressions the disabled of all stripes have to deal with. It’s UK- and AU-based primarily from the looks of it but I would think it applies to most disabled people - I certainly know I’ve heard my share of this kind of ableism. Here’s more tweets (source is The Indepedant):

@DamonLord #heardwhilstdisabled “that’s so sad. That baby will grow up with a blind father. We should call Social Services on them” About me and my son

Pretty much.

[screenshot of Facebook post by someone called Miranda. The post says: “Even if I humor anti-vaccine activists and for a second believe that vaccines cause autism in 0.01% of children they’re administered to (spoiler alert: vaccines don’t cause autism), I am still deeply disturbed that these people are more afraid of people with disabilities than they are of fatal, painful, and endemic diseases. If cognitive disabilities are more threatening to you than children never getting to grow up because polio makes a comeback, you have priorities to reevaluate my friend. Shame on you for brainwashing mothers an families into believing that autism is the absolute worst thing that can happen to a person.]

Time to show some love and appreciate these heroes.

Firefighters are some badass mutha fuckas

firefighters are incredibly under appreciated, this is sadly the first appreciation post to them and we need more of these, they literally walk through hell to pick up people and pull them out, they are all Castiels if all civilians are Deans, and they save animals, treating all like humans, i have never heard of a firefighter that has chosen not to save someone for there race or sex or sexuality or anything, a human is a human and an animal is an animal, i love these people and they don’t deserve to be ignored as much as they are

Can we just pick a day and trend our love for firefighters worldwide?

Is there a firefighters day?

Tweet 1: I can see a lot of people either avoiding Plan B & ending up pregnant or attempting to take multiple doses & getting sick.
Tweet 2: anyone w a credit card (not everyone, I know) can/should use ella ella-rx.com they’ll ship it overnight $45
SIGNAL BOOST. Ella is another form of emergency contraception/the morning-after pill. It’s more effective than Plan B and can be taken up to FIVE DAYS after your mishap, rather than three days. Please spread this around; with all of the anti-choice legislation flying about and how difficult it can be for some people to get Plan B even OTC (like minors, people living in small towns, etc.), this might be the only way a lot of people can get their hands on the morning-after pill.

Boooooost

I’ve also read that Ella is more effective for plus size people.

This is important. Ella works for everyone. Plan B is not effective for people over 176 pounds. Protect yourself

Everyone?

asks:
How do you feel about Emma Watson being an ambassador for the UN? I think her speech was good, but I'm still questioning why the UN chose her, when she didn't really have any credentials and didn't speak out about feminist issues before this? Also she seems like a white feminist, if you know what I mean. She criticized Beyoncé, saying she was catering to the male gaze in her visual album.

seriouslyamerica:

I don’t wonder why the UN chose her: she’s well known, nonthreatening, and people see her as “book smart” - partly because of Brown, but also because she played “the Smartest Witch of Her Age” for ten years. It’s bullshit respectability politics up the wazoo.

That’s not to say I think she’s a terrible person. I think her heart is in the right place, though I am sick and tired of mainstream feminism always centering men.

I personally would much rather have seen Beyonce - but Beyonce is held to higher standards (and we all know why). Here’s a piece written by a different white feminist that lays out my feelings pretty well.
